2014 Vape Q&A #1: You Asked, I Answered.

Hey here’s a little Q&A video for ya if you’re not sick of my face yet ;)

These are the 15 questions I address:

1) Which vape do you honestly prefer, the Pax or the Firefly?

2) Any word on the Grasshopper?

3) What happens if you have to stop a session halfway through? Can you just resume where you left off or is the material only good for one use?

4) What’s a good vaporizer for under $100?

5) Why the F are you wearing glasses?

6) I’m looking for a dual-mode unit (whip & balloon) and I’ve narrowed it down to the VapirRise or the Extreme-Q, which one is better?

7) I want a vape that leaves no odor behind, I share a house with someone who can’t smell it, which one should I get?

8) Next to the Volcano which model has the best vapor quality?

9) What’s a good quality, fairly priced vape for a first-timer?

10) Should I get the small or medium sized Space Case grinder?

11) What about the Snoop Dogg vape pen? It says it works good with herb.

12) What’s the difference in vapor quality between the Volcano and the Plenty?

13) How much herb does the Pax chamber hold and how many draws do you get from a full packing?

14) What should I look for in a vape? What are the most important features?

15) I can’t decide between the Pax and the Ascent, which one would you pick?

Stay up!!

my firefly will combust say 1 out of 10 times of use.i try very hard to keep bad material out.please give some tips.thanks, paul

    • yonuts says:

if the ff is combusting you are holding the button too long. I do a 5 flash hold then [pull] after another 8 flashes of light display. Maybe a few sooner depending on type and dryness and unit. dont pack material. just a little snug in place. Also make sure it is cleaned in the air ports by chamber. You can suck all day and without the flow of vape/air it wont hit and may combust from overheating. Also dont drag the lid when placing back onto unit. I have miss aligned the lid and the rubber tracking on sides rolls and lets too much air in.

    Hi Mr Critic

its obvious that you have tried a lot of vapes, but which ones did you keep and which do you currently own now?

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey I still own every single one, if you’re asking which models I like and use the most that would be the ones I rate over an 85.

  3. Sal says:

How about the thermovape cera .. Did you ever try one?

  4. daedalus says:

    hi bud,

i tried the ascent vaporizer and i liked it. then i saw your review of the firefly… and now i am not sure… so is there “the best” portable vaporizer? list of importance:

    1.: taste
2.: no herbs in my mouth
    3.: silence

i hope you help may give me a hint… ;-)

    greetings from amsterdam…

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey there isn’t really one single vape that I think is the best for everybody, but the few I like the best right now are the Firefly, Pax, Ascent & Solo.

Best tasting vapor in my opinion is from the Firefly, but they’re all above average.

  5. Anonymous says:

this was good. u happen to answer at least 3 of the questions that I, myself have added to ur page in the course of this Q & A. It was helpful

  6. Aaron says:

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but what do you usually do with your ABV?

  7. beth says:

Hi, I am an admirer. I believe your thorough reviews are on point.
I am interested in a good vape pen for shatter, crumble and wax. So, would appreciate your advice. I was leaning toward the new micro G or Cloud Platinum or other? And thanks for your opinion and your time!

    • Bud Bud says:

Hi Beth thanks for posting, I actually don’t use concentrates very often so my experience with pen vapes is limited, but out of the models I’ve tried the microG was decent and I also liked the Omicron and AtmosRx.

I don’t know much about other models but from what I do know they’re all fairly similar in how they’re designed and how they perform.

  8. Chad says:

    Hey Bud,

I was just about sold on the pax by ploom, when I noticed another vape that I don’t think that you reviewed (vapor blunt 2.0 dlx). What are your thoughts about this one(without purchasing extra parts)?

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey Chad I never reviewed that model because the other 3 vapes I did review made by that company all kinda stink in my opinion (Pinnacle, Pinnacle Pro, and Palm), so it’s basically 3 strikes and you’re out for them.

      I appreciate your request though!

  9. how long says:

Hi so I’ve been grinding my teeth on which vaporizer to buy for a while now. I smoke with my friends a lot and never really got around to buying my own. What would you recommend I buy as a first? I was thinking either the MFLB or the Solo. I didn’t like the Pax because I feel like it’s too much upkeep for me.

  10. Fabian says:

Hello! Any opinion about the Vapolution vaporizer? Thank you.

  11. dave says:

    Hi Bud,
just wondered if you have heard of,tested or plan on a review of the miniVAP?……….thanks for a great site and all the work you put into it

  12. Lab man says:

Have you used the Aromed? I am looking for the best possible unit and I believe this German unit might be the one. Would you consider reviewing it? Thanks.

    • Bud Bud says:

I haven’t yet but last week I did put up a review of the Herbalizer which currently holds the top rating overall.

It’s similar to the Aromed in that it uses a halogen bulb as its heating element, but the Herbalizer bulb is much larger and more advanced so it heats up super fast and the temp control is very precise.

      Check it out: http://www.vapecritic.com/vaporizers/herbalizer/

  13. Trippy Bob says:

    Hey Bud,
I’ve been watching your reviews and think they’re really top-notch. I haven’t gone trough all of them yet and I’m sorry if you already made a review about it, but I was looking into the Pinnacle Pro vaporizer the other day and it has some really positive feedback. I also like the optional water tool they’re offering, more vaps should have one imo.
I was wondering if you have any insights on the topic and could give me some heads-up?

    Thanks, dude!

  14. Fraser says:

Had same issue with my pax and cause i’m in uk the warranty isn’t being honoured…..jus a wee warning!

  15. Mike says:

    Hi Bud,

First of all thanks for your reviews, they are some of the most informative and helpful ones out there!

I am trying to decide between the volcano and the herbalizer which does not have many reviews yet but from the few ones that I have read it is simply amazing (but very pricey – $700 is a big chunk of change for me to part with). The 15-second heat up time is impressive but I am mostly concerned how it compares to the vapor quality of the volcano.

Have you had a chance to test the herbalizer, or any thoughts on it?

    • Bud Bud says:

      Hey Mike thanks for posting!

I’m actually in the process of testing the Herbalizer now and will have a full review up within a few weeks, stay tuned, I appreciate your request!

  16. gotsniff says:

Yo Bud, a while back, after watching all of your reviews, I finally decided to take up your wisdom and get myself a Magic Flight Launch Box. I’ve had it for a few months now and can confidently say that I absolutely love it. You did some Solid critiques on this vape. Had a weird question for you about it though. I don’t expect you to have an answer, but I figured that since you’ve had the MFLB vaporizer and have traveled with it for much longer than I have, you might. I was planning on going to a concert soon and wanted to bring my MFLB with me. Problem is, the concert will have metal detectors at the door.

Do you think that the MFLB would set off a metal detector?

Its mostly wood, so i figure it could maybe make it through. Have you tried anything like this? I know the battery would set off the detector for sure, but i figure that I can put that in the plastic bin they provide have along with my keys, cellphone, wallet and I’d be ok.

  17. ann says:

    Hi Bud,
Always thanks for nice video and info.
I have been using Pax for 4 months, but I am still new to vaporizer. I’ve only used Blend-X tobacco, which is half-wet and sold by Ploom. Now I feel that this Blend-X tobacco leaves lots of residue and my oven is totally tarnished. So my question is,

    1) is it possible to use completely dried tobacco with Pax?
    2) if possible, will dried tobacco make the oven of Pax less messy?
    3) how is it different to vape dried tobacco in comparison to kinda wet tobacco like Blend-X?
    4) are there specific materials that you can recommend? I’d like to try some that you can recommend.

    • Bud Bud says:

      Hey Ann thanks for posting,

I would say to just do a little experimenting to find what works best for you. I’ve personally found that dry material vaporizes better than moist, so maybe give that a try and see what kind of results you get. And also experiment with different grind consistencies, usually a finer grind will produce more vapor.

The list of materials that can be vaporized is very long but with the Pax you have 3 heat settings (370°F, 390°F and 410°F) so I would stick to things that fully vaporize in that temperature range.

  18. Josh says:

    Hey Bud,

Nice vid! really informative, got me thinking though, just ordered a snoop dogg pen vaporizer, want to try them with dried herbs, I hope I can enjoy mine…

  19. Jamie says:

    Hi dude,

Have you had the opportunity to test the MiniVap portable vaporizer? It looks the nuts from the limited reviews I’ve seen, but unfortunately there aren’t many reviews to compare. Any thoughts?

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey I haven’t tested that one yet but I do have it on my list of possibilities, I appreciate your request!

      • Jamie says:

Awesome. Looking forward to your review. It has a similar price point to the Volcano (which makes it twice as expensive as most other portables), so I’m really curious as to just how well it works.

I’m really hoping this device justifies the hefty price, because it seems outrageously expensive.

        Stay up, Bud.

  20. Herer says:

Sup Bud. Have had my eye on getting a vape for a while now and was pretty set on the pax until i recently saw a review for the Pinnacle Pro. I know you didn’t like the original Pinnacle but they seem to have addressed most of the issues you had as well as including an optional water extension which looks pretty awesome. Was wondering if you’ve had any experience using it and if so what your thoughts were?

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey what’s up, I haven’t tried the Pro model and I’m not sure if I’m going to, seems very similar to the original one which I’m not a fan of but I’m definitely still considering it, thank you for your request.

  21. Sean says:

I’m leaning towards the Pax and Firefly for a mostly at-home vape. I’ve heard that some plastic vaporizers can alter the flavor and smell of the vapor they produce. Would you say the Pax falls into this category? Would you say the FF produces “cleaner/true-er” vapor given the same herb?

    • Bud Bud says:

Yea the FF does produce a slightly “truer” tasting vapor, but not really enough of a difference to make that the deciding factor between the two in my opinion.

I wouldn’t get the Pax if mainly using it at home, it’s main advantage is its portability but for at-home use there are other vapes that can produce more/stronger vapor.

  22. Chrism says:

I am trying a mflb now, it is combusting not vaporizing. Tar is clearly visible when vapor drawn through a tissue. A lovely pipe though.

  23. Nick says:

I’m trying to decide between the Launch Box and the Firefly for an at-home vape; I know you rated both very closely (Firefly-89, LaunchBox-85). I’ve watched both of your reviews on them and obviously the Firefly is significantly more expensive.

If you went with only one of them could you justify paying that much more for the Firefly, and what significant benefits does it have over the Launch Box? Thanks!

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey yea if the price difference isn’t an issue the Firefly is a better, more advanced vape overall. The Launch Box is still a great unit if you don’t want to spend a lot but if I had to pick just one to keep it would be the FF.

It’s just made of more expensive materials and can produce more/denser vapor.

  24. Sebastian says:

You transcribed half the video with the Q’s.
The A’s can be read far faster than a 14-minute video. ;-)
    Otherwise appreciated.

  25. Mojo says:

    Hi Bud,

I am wondering, do you have any idea why the Pax isn’t available in Europe?
I mean this thing is more than 2 years old, and they are suing chinese companies who copy their product and sell it mostly in Europe.
That would cost them less in my opinion to make deals with european resellers than paying jurists and lawyers, wouldn’t it?
What’s the point of all that?

  26. lovetopuff says:

Bud, you crack me up! I watched all your informative videos and e-mailed you once…just an update to thank you. I took the plunge and bought a MFLB during a Black Friday sale… I am loving it…thanks for all your helpful info:) P.S. I love your sunglasses.

  27. Karen T says:

The vape developed by Snoop Dogg is under $100. I really wish that you would review that one. You should try it and let us know.

    • Bud Bud says:

Are you looking to truly vaporize dried herbs? I would avoid getting a pen, they’re not known for performing very well, even though they’re cheap, they’re really designed for use with concentrates.

  28. Olf says:

nice video! thanks for that. are you open for more questions?
I tested and own the solo, the pax, the pinnacle pro, the mlfb, two vaporgenies and the no2 (sold iolite) but I do think that I need the firefly to satisfy my needs.
I prefer the solo (as home-unit) and the mlfb (for the desk) and the pnp (for on the go)….wouldn´t be the firefly the perfect unit….not stealthwise…but in taste, mobility and effeciency?

    • Bud Bud says:

Hey yes the Firefly is a great vape, with it’s strengths being taste, efficiency, high build quality, elegance, low draw resistance, and low maintenance required.

Some of it’s weaknesses are portability, ease of use, draw consistency and battery life.

  29. James says:

    Dear Bud,

Your answer to question number 5 is hysterical. Stay up.

Also, I’m a happy Pax owner because of you. Your videos really gave me an idea of what I’ve been looking for.

    – James

  30. wAX says:

And what about the new Sublimator vaporizer?
It just seem to be the revolution….

    • Bud Bud says:

Seems interesting but very expensive and looks more like a science project than a practical vape. I’m sure it’ll get better and the price will come down but I don’t think I’m gonna buy one until it does.

  31. waldo says:

my girlfriend bought me a pax from iploom not knowing any better. Complete knock off smelled like burnt plastic sent it back after making email contact with iploom. Still havent recieved our money back and no one will return our emails. Thought i would make this post to warn the masses. Keep posting videos and vape up.

  32. Scott says:

    HI Bud
I purchased a pax about 8months ago and has been my steady ever since. I love this thing even cleaning it is fun. Just kidding ..and then it happened I broke it. The white button to change the heat settings was a little to low in the housing and I was having trouble pressing it with my fat fingers lol. So I stuck a tiny screwdriver in trying kind of pry it up and broke the whole thing it wouldn’t turn on.
I went on the ploom website where I had a live chat with the techs told me to send it in they e mailed me right there a shipping label that day it was off in the mail
Now bud when I tell you the abuse I put this thing through I really wish I took pics because it was banged up!!!
They send email updates on the whole process ,your pax has arrived ,it’s on the bench, and then one stating it can’t be fixed followed by where overnighting you a brand new one. The next day I got a brand new kit.
I know it’s a long winded story just to say they have good customer service but they have their act together .
These days it’s very rare to find companies that really stand behind there products. Ploom has one of the best customers service dept I’ve ever experienced

    • Bud Bud says:

Awesome man thanks for sharing your experience, I’m really glad they came through for you! (they definitely do the right thing)
