2014 Vape Q&A #1: You Asked, I Answered.

Hey here’s a little Q&A video for ya if you’re not sick of my face yet ;)

These are the 15 questions I address:

1) Which vape do you honestly prefer, the Pax or the Firefly?

2) Any word on the Grasshopper?

3) What happens if you have to stop a session halfway through? Can you just resume where you left off or is the material only good for one use?

4) What’s a good vaporizer for under $100?

5) Why the F are you wearing glasses?

6) I’m looking for a dual-mode unit (whip & balloon) and I’ve narrowed it down to the VapirRise or the Extreme-Q, which one is better?

7) I want a vape that leaves no odor behind, I share a house with someone who can’t smell it, which one should I get?

8) Next to the Volcano which model has the best vapor quality?

9) What’s a good quality, fairly priced vape for a first-timer?

10) Should I get the small or medium sized Space Case grinder?

11) What about the Snoop Dogg vape pen? It says it works good with herb.

12) What’s the difference in vapor quality between the Volcano and the Plenty?

13) How much herb does the Pax chamber hold and how many draws do you get from a full packing?

14) What should I look for in a vape? What are the most important features?

15) I can’t decide between the Pax and the Ascent, which one would you pick?

Stay up!!

  1. HI Bud
I purchased a pax about 8months ago and has been my steady ever since. I love this thing even cleaning it is fun. Just kidding ..and then it happened I broke it. The white button to change the heat settings was a little to low in the housing and I was having trouble pressing it with my fat fingers lol. So I stuck a tiny screwdriver in trying kind of pry it up and broke the whole thing it wouldn’t turn on.
I went on the ploom website where I had a live chat with the techs told me to send it in they e mailed me right there a shipping label that day it was off in the mail
Now bud when I tell you the abuse I put this thing through I really wish I took pics because it was banged up!!!
They send email updates on the whole process ,your pax has arrived ,it’s on the bench, and then one stating it can’t be fixed followed by where overnighting you a brand new one. The next day I got a brand new kit.
I know it’s a long winded story just to say they have good customer service but they have their act together .
These days it’s very rare to find companies that really stand behind there products. Ploom has one of the best customers service dept I’ve ever experienced

  2. my girlfriend bought me a pax from iploom not knowing any better. Complete knock off smelled like burnt plastic sent it back after making email contact with iploom. Still havent recieved our money back and no one will return our emails. Thought i would make this post to warn the masses. Keep posting videos and vape up.

    • Seems interesting but very expensive and looks more like a science project than a practical vape. I’m sure it’ll get better and the price will come down but I don’t think I’m gonna buy one until it does.

  3. Dear Bud,

Your answer to question number 5 is hysterical. Stay up.

Also, I’m a happy Pax owner because of you. Your videos really gave me an idea of what I’ve been looking for.

  4. nice video! thanks for that. are you open for more questions?
I tested and own the solo, the pax, the pinnacle pro, the mlfb, two vaporgenies and the no2 (sold iolite) but I do think that I need the firefly to satisfy my needs.
I prefer the solo (as home-unit) and the mlfb (for the desk) and the pnp (for on the go)….wouldn´t be the firefly the perfect unit….not stealthwise…but in taste, mobility and effeciency?

    • Hey yes the Firefly is a great vape, with it’s strengths being taste, efficiency, high build quality, elegance, low draw resistance, and low maintenance required.

Some of it’s weaknesses are portability, ease of use, draw consistency and battery life.

  5. The vape developed by Snoop Dogg is under $100. I really wish that you would review that one. You should try it and let us know.

    • Are you looking to truly vaporize dried herbs? I would avoid getting a pen, they’re not known for performing very well, even though they’re cheap, they’re really designed for use with concentrates.

  6. Bud, you crack me up! I watched all your informative videos and e-mailed you once…just an update to thank you. I took the plunge and bought a MFLB during a Black Friday sale… I am loving it…thanks for all your helpful info:) P.S. I love your sunglasses.

  7. Hi Bud,

I am wondering, do you have any idea why the Pax isn’t available in Europe?
I mean this thing is more than 2 years old, and they are suing chinese companies who copy their product and sell it mostly in Europe.
That would cost them less in my opinion to make deals with european resellers than paying jurists and lawyers, wouldn’t it?
What’s the point of all that?

  8. You transcribed half the video with the Q’s.
The A’s can be read far faster than a 14-minute video. ;-)
    Otherwise appreciated.

  9. I’m trying to decide between the Launch Box and the Firefly for an at-home vape; I know you rated both very closely (Firefly-89, LaunchBox-85). I’ve watched both of your reviews on them and obviously the Firefly is significantly more expensive.

If you went with only one of them could you justify paying that much more for the Firefly, and what significant benefits does it have over the Launch Box? Thanks!

    • Hey yea if the price difference isn’t an issue the Firefly is a better, more advanced vape overall. The Launch Box is still a great unit if you don’t want to spend a lot but if I had to pick just one to keep it would be the FF.

It’s just made of more expensive materials and can produce more/denser vapor.

  10. I am trying a mflb now, it is combusting not vaporizing. Tar is clearly visible when vapor drawn through a tissue. A lovely pipe though.

  11. I’m leaning towards the Pax and Firefly for a mostly at-home vape. I’ve heard that some plastic vaporizers can alter the flavor and smell of the vapor they produce. Would you say the Pax falls into this category? Would you say the FF produces “cleaner/true-er” vapor given the same herb?

    • Yea the FF does produce a slightly “truer” tasting vapor, but not really enough of a difference to make that the deciding factor between the two in my opinion.

I wouldn’t get the Pax if mainly using it at home, it’s main advantage is its portability but for at-home use there are other vapes that can produce more/stronger vapor.

  12. Sup Bud. Have had my eye on getting a vape for a while now and was pretty set on the pax until i recently saw a review for the Pinnacle Pro. I know you didn’t like the original Pinnacle but they seem to have addressed most of the issues you had as well as including an optional water extension which looks pretty awesome. Was wondering if you’ve had any experience using it and if so what your thoughts were?

    • Hey what’s up, I haven’t tried the Pro model and I’m not sure if I’m going to, seems very similar to the original one which I’m not a fan of but I’m definitely still considering it, thank you for your request.

  13. Hi dude,

Have you had the opportunity to test the MiniVap portable vaporizer? It looks the nuts from the limited reviews I’ve seen, but unfortunately there aren’t many reviews to compare. Any thoughts?

      • Awesome. Looking forward to your review. It has a similar price point to the Volcano (which makes it twice as expensive as most other portables), so I’m really curious as to just how well it works.

I’m really hoping this device justifies the hefty price, because it seems outrageously expensive.

        Stay up, Bud.

  14. Hey Bud,

Nice vid! really informative, got me thinking though, just ordered a snoop dogg pen vaporizer, want to try them with dried herbs, I hope I can enjoy mine…

  15. Hi Bud,
Always thanks for nice video and info.
I have been using Pax for 4 months, but I am still new to vaporizer. I’ve only used Blend-X tobacco, which is half-wet and sold by Ploom. Now I feel that this Blend-X tobacco leaves lots of residue and my oven is totally tarnished. So my question is,

    1) is it possible to use completely dried tobacco with Pax?
    2) if possible, will dried tobacco make the oven of Pax less messy?
    3) how is it different to vape dried tobacco in comparison to kinda wet tobacco like Blend-X?
    4) are there specific materials that you can recommend? I’d like to try some that you can recommend.

    Thanks!

    • Hey Ann thanks for posting,

I would say to just do a little experimenting to find what works best for you. I’ve personally found that dry material vaporizes better than moist, so maybe give that a try and see what kind of results you get. And also experiment with different grind consistencies, usually a finer grind will produce more vapor.

The list of materials that can be vaporized is very long but with the Pax you have 3 heat settings (370°F, 390°F and 410°F) so I would stick to things that fully vaporize in that temperature range.

  16. Yo Bud, a while back, after watching all of your reviews, I finally decided to take up your wisdom and get myself a Magic Flight Launch Box. I’ve had it for a few months now and can confidently say that I absolutely love it. You did some Solid critiques on this vape. Had a weird question for you about it though. I don’t expect you to have an answer, but I figured that since you’ve had the MFLB vaporizer and have traveled with it for much longer than I have, you might. I was planning on going to a concert soon and wanted to bring my MFLB with me. Problem is, the concert will have metal detectors at the door.

Do you think that the MFLB would set off a metal detector?

Its mostly wood, so i figure it could maybe make it through. Have you tried anything like this? I know the battery would set off the detector for sure, but i figure that I can put that in the plastic bin they provide have along with my keys, cellphone, wallet and I’d be ok.

  17. Hi Bud,

First of all thanks for your reviews, they are some of the most informative and helpful ones out there!

I am trying to decide between the volcano and the herbalizer which does not have many reviews yet but from the few ones that I have read it is simply amazing (but very pricey – $700 is a big chunk of change for me to part with). The 15-second heat up time is impressive but I am mostly concerned how it compares to the vapor quality of the volcano.

Have you had a chance to test the herbalizer, or any thoughts on it?

    Thanks,
    -Mike

    • Hey Mike thanks for posting!

I’m actually in the process of testing the Herbalizer now and will have a full review up within a few weeks, stay tuned, I appreciate your request!
